How “Jacklyn Segovia Nicolas” Was Crafted

Getting to Know My Name and Its Origin

I am Jacklyn Segovia Nicolas and this is a technical writing about where my name came from. This includes my parent’s history and also the meaning of my first name, my middle name and my surname. And also, my personal opinion about my given name.

My surname, Nicolas, is from my father’s surname. Their family/ancestors are originated in Montalban, Rizal. According to Wikipedia, it comes from a Greek word Nikolaos a compound of nikē (victory) and laos (people). The names Nicolas, Nicholas, Nikolas or Nickolas can be understood to mean “victory of the people“.

My middle name, Segovia is from my mother’s maiden surname.  Their family/ancestors are originated from the Bicol Region. My mother told me that my early ancestors have Spanish blood. According to various sources, the name Segovia is a name of a city in the autonomous region of Castile and Leon, Spain.

My given name, Jacklyn is given by my mother. She was a fan of Jaclyn Jose when she was young. I just don’t know why she included the letter k in my name, while Jaclyn Jose’s name doesn’t have. The name has a root of American and also French and the name is associated with victory, according to sources.

I am happy with my name because it is clearly a girl’s name but it’s not too feminine because of the Jack, which is a masculine name. This also reflects to my personality because it is a strong name when you hear it. Being a strong name, it represents me as a strong independent woman, in which I believe I am. I think my name will contribute to my success since Jacklyn is not a common name, it will be easily remembered especially if the only Jacklyn you know is me.
