What’s in my name?

My name is John Mikhaell Marcelo Tibunsay. In Biblical Hebrew, my name means “Gift from God” which means a person of great beauty both physical and internal. It implies a heroic strength of character that possess an enormous inner clarity.

My Mother said that she decided to give my first name “John” after my father whose name is John  and “Mikhaell” for she love the sound of this name while I was still on her tummy. and “Miko” as my nickname.

Indeed the Biblical meaning of my name “Gift from God” is very true to her because my parents thought that they will never have another child but God is good and they have me after 13 long years after my older brother Joverick Karl.

At first my mother wants my name to spell “John Mikhael”. However, since my older brother has 12 letters on his name, she wanted my name to have the same letter count. She added an “H” and another “L” to make it spell as “John Mikhaell”. When I asked her why she wanted it that way, she explained to me that it’s just one of her own personal superstition for good luck.

In hindsight, I realized that my mother’s superstition worked for me. I have come to believe that my name has helped me stand out. Each person has their own unique qualities and having my own unique name definitely brought those qualities into light. Nevertheless, instead of the name defining us, I think that we should define our name. Our names are tethered to us for life. it is the written version of myself and that whichever path I would go through, I hope that I will carry this name into success.
